Approximately 10 years ago I had an operation in Spain to treat arthritis in my knees. After the operation I had no trouble with my knees until 2 years ago when mobility started to become an issue and getting up and down stairs became painful. I went to the doctors and asked for the same treatment as in Spain and was told that they don’t do it here. Instead I was prescribed painkillers that I was told to take every 6 hours. I have experienced discomfort and swelling in my ankle for many years due to a rugby injury. During this time I have had numerous consultations to investigate a medical remedy but this has been unsuccessful. As well as causing discomfort, this injury has from time to time resulted in difficulties moving around freely. I rented a Homecare device for my mother after seeing an article in a newspaper. We weren’t sure how beneficial it would be but we have all been delighted with the results. My mother is in her 80s and has had problems with her knee for some time. In the last few months it has been so bad that she has been in pain moving around and has been unable to climb stairs. After a week of using the Hilotherapy regularly her mobility has greatly improved to the extent that she has managed to climb the stairs again. I have led a highly active life playing field hockey, tennis, squash, running and hill walking on a regular, if not daily basis. Now 67 years old my knees are showing signs of wear and tear. At around the age of 40, I started exhibiting the classic symptoms of worn and torn meniscus with damaged and stretched ligaments. Five operations and numerous steroid injections kept me going. I then received the sound advice of a leading orthopaedic surgeon in the United States to simply maintain the quad and associated muscle areas through appropriate non impact exercise and avoid if possible invasive surgery and steroid injections. I have maintained a regime of now for several years and avoided the need for further surgery and replacement.
Following a recent prolonged period of intensive activity, I developed an area of sustained inflammation in my right knee. Physiotherapy, whilst offering some relief, failed to provide an answer to the pain and swelling. I procured a Hilotherm Homecare device which I utilised regularly over a two week period and can report a marked improvement in the condition allowing me to return to sporting activities. The device is portable. I can utilise it whilst working at my desk in the day or sitting down to watch television in the evening. It is simple to set up and proffers an essentially organic, pain free option for the treatment of inflammation.

Following a shoulder operation to repair my Supraspinatus (rotator cuff) I was advised to ice my shoulder as much as possible for the 4 weeks following the op. This proved very difficult given the ice bags and shoulder brace (to house the ice bags) that the hospital supplied.

I was introduced to the Hilotherapy homecare device that allowed me to ice my shoulder for
a. Extended periods and
b. Whenever I felt the need
c. At the right temperature to optimise healing and pain relief

I was in considerable pain after the op and the sleeve that applied the cooling was easy to put on, very comfortable and provided cooling to the required areas. I have no doubt that I would have iced my should far less using the hospital ice bags and brace and I am convinced that the hilotherapy homecare device contributed significantly to my pain control and healing at a crucial time. In addition friends at the rugby club who have had ankle and knee injuries have also benefited from the treatment both immediately upon sustaining injuries and as part of the recovery process.

The renting, delivery, collection and communications were first class. The homecare device was very easy to set up and use. We found ice cubes maintained the temp longer than the frozen blocks, but both worked. It was a godsend in terms of relief and diminishing the bruised areas.
